Cytomorphological Study of Lymphadenopathy at a Tertiary Health Care Hospital in Kathmandu

Lymphadenopathy is most commonly encountered problems in clinical practice. Various etiological factors can cause lymphadenopathy. Cytomorphological study of lymphadenopathy a window for diagnosis many disease processes. Aspiration cytology provides reliable, safe, rapid and economical method screening the patients with accuracy. It differentiate neoplastic from non-neoplastic lesions therefore influences patient management preventing being subjected to unnecessary surgery. Hospital based descriptive was carried out Department Pathology tertiary health care hospital Kathmandu over period three years (1st June 2019 30th May 2022). A total 331 cases were included study. The aim this evaluate cytomorphological findings Out lymphadenopathy, 281 (84.9%) 47 (14.2%) neoplastic. Among non lesions, reactive lymphadenitis 113 (34.1%) common followed by tubercular lymphadenitis, granulomatous suppurative necrotizing lymphadenitis. neoplastic, 40 (12%) metastatic carcinoma 7 (2.1%) lymphoma. squamous cell breast carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, papillary thyroid.
